WHAT IS AQUATIC PHYSIOTHERAPY (HYDROTHERAPY)?

Hydrotherapy is a form of physiotherapy, which utilises the specific properties of water; including warmth, buoyancy and turbulence to assist in the management of a wide variety of conditions.

The water is used to:

  • Provide support to the body and allow easy mobility and early weight bearing.

  • Assist or resist movements, stretch and strengthen.

  • Aid relaxation, improve circulation, and relieve pain.

  • Improve balance and muscular control.

  • Improve fitness and water confidence.

WHO CAN BENEFIT?

Hydrotherapy can be a useful treatment modality for a wide variety of conditions:

  • An Orthopaedic injury such as Fractures, Sprains and Strains.

  • Pre and post orthopaedic surgery.

  • Neurological conditions such as Stroke, Head injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s and Spinal Cord injuries.

  • Arthritic conditions including Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylosis.

  • Back and Neck pain.

  • Sports injuries.

  • Balance problems.

  • Relaxation

  • Fitness and Conditioning

COST

New Patients will typically be assessed on land before entering the pool.

All patients doing Self-Help Hydro need to have been assessed by a physiotherapist and independent with their program.
